Pain Management

Pain management may help people with persistent back pain, neck pain, nerve pain, joint-related pain, or symptoms that interfere with movement, work, sleep, or daily activities.

Who this care is for

This care pathway may be a fit for people experiencing concerns such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Back or neck pain
  • Nerve or burning pain
  • Joint-related pain
  • Pain after an injury
  • Pain not improved with initial treatment

Pain-management evaluation may also support selected patients with diabetic nerve pain, burning or shooting foot pain, painful peripheral neuropathy, or foot pain that disrupts sleep or daily activity.

What may be evaluated

A care team considers symptoms, examination findings, prior care, and other information together. Online information cannot diagnose an individual condition.

  • Pain patterns and function
  • Prior treatments and imaging
  • Possible nerve, spine, or joint-related contributors

Evaluation may include painful diabetic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathic pain, nerve-related foot pain, and chronic burning or shooting pain.

Care options

Recommendations depend on the cause of symptoms, function, goals, and response to prior care.

  • Medication management
  • Therapy and rehabilitation support
  • Image-guided injections
  • Nerve blocks
  • Radiofrequency treatment
  • Neuromodulation
  • Coordination with spine, neurology, or nerve care

Pain-management care may support selected patients with persistent nerve-related pain through medication management, interventional options, or coordination with foot and ankle, neurology, peripheral nerve, and rehabilitation care. It does not replace foot examination, wound care, diabetes management, or vascular evaluation.

Pain management is not one single treatment. The goal is to identify the factors contributing to pain and develop a plan based on the patient’s condition, prior treatment, function, and goals.
